What is drayage?
Drayage is the short-distance trucking of shipping containers between ports, rail yards and nearby warehouses or final destinations. It's the first and last leg of most container journeys.
What's the difference between drayage and intermodal?
Intermodal shipping moves a container across more than one mode, such as ship, rail and truck, on a single journey. Drayage is the truck move at either end: from the port or rail yard to a warehouse, or the other way.
What is a last free day (LFD)?
The last free day is the final day a container can stay at the port or rail terminal before storage charges (demurrage) start. We track every container so pickups happen before the LFD and returns meet their cut-off.
What affects drayage cost?
Distance, the port or terminal, container size and weight, waiting time at the terminal, chassis use, and any demurrage, detention or accessorial charges.
